Fr.
Carlos Alfonso AZPIROZ COSTA
|
|
Very Rev. Carlos Azpiroz Costa, OP, from Buenos Aires (Argentina), was elected Saturday, July 14th, by 127 delegates representing over 6, 000 brothers in the Dominican Order worldwide. He succeeds to Fr. Timothy Radcliffe, OP, a native of London, who was the first English Master of the Order. Fr. Carlos Azpiroz Costa is only the second non-European Master General to serve in the Order's 787 years of existence.
The new Master is 44 years old and is a specialist in Canon Law. He will serve the Order for a nine year term.
The delegates of this international Order, to which famous saints, such as Thomas Aquinas, Albert the Great and Catherine of Siena belonged to, will continue to reflect on their current mission in the world and its future, through August 8th , at Providence College (RI), the only college or university operated in the United-States under the auspices of the Dominican Friars.
